Wisley Library

Our collections at RHS Garden Wisley provide something for everyone - world-leading scientific research, gardening advice and books for children

Our library at RHS Garden Wisley is located at RHS Hilltop – The Home of Gardening Science.

The purpose-built library houses books, journals, archives and artworks. From rare historic treasures to cutting-edge scientific research, children's books to the latest gardening magazines – we have something of interest for every gardener.

Lending collections

The library is open to all garden visitors. Drop in and browse our books, relax with the latest gardening magazines, and take part in our tours and talks.

RHS members can borrow up to five books from our lending collection, and access our eBooks and audiobooks.
 

Reference collections

Our reference collections specialise in horticultural taxonomy and science. They include an extensive range of floras, nursery catalogues and horticultural journals, as well as the RHS Garden Wisley archives. Everyone is welcome to consult items held in our archive store or Foyle Reading Room by making a research appointment.

Normal opening hours are 10am–4pm daily including weekends and Bank holidays.

Accessibility

The Wisley Library is fully accessible and is located in RHS Hilltop – The Home of Gardening Science

There is level access to the Hilltop building and library, and entry is through accessible, automatic doors that open outwards. 

There is a height-adjustable table available in the library for those users in wheelchairs or using other mobility aids. 

Seating is loose throughout the library and staff are happy to move seating to make study areas accessible for all. 

The nearest accessible toilet is in the Atrium of RHS Hilltop, 35m from the entrance. The nearest Changing Places facility is in the Welcome Building

The accessible toilet on the ground floor of RHS Hilltop building, 35m from the entrance. The facility is 7.8sqm in size with a non-slip floor and features an emergency alarm, changing bench (height adjustable, adult-sized, wall mounted), tracking hoist (ceiling, loop), peninsular toilet, height adjustable washbasin, colostomy shelf, paper roll (wide tear-off roll to cover bench, as well as standard paper roll) and large waste bin.
